The tables are set for Clare Gourmet Weekend 2006, Australia's finest food and wine festival! This celebration of first class food and wine is truly a lavish 'spread' - spread throughout the wineries, restaurants and country pubs of idyllic Clare Valley, spread across a region famous for historic villages, bucolic vistas and rural folk who still know the meaning of a harvest festival.
A highlight for wine enthusiasts is the much-lauded Vintage Tasting. It takes place on Saturday, 6 May 2006, at the Clare Showgrounds and people literally get a taste of things to come by sampling the year vintage before the winemaking process is complete - a privilege only previously granted to vintners.
This year the Gourmet Weekend will also host Tutored Tastings of Rieslings and Reds where visitors can try wines alongside some of the very names which appear on the labels.
On Gourmet Sunday, people expect to indulge and be indulged. They might start the day beside an early morning bonfire, eating gourmet sausages and roasted tomatoes; after more wine tastings, perhaps they will sit at a linen-covered lunch table and be served barbecued prawns with a parmesan and saffron risotto - all in the company of a swinging jazz band.
